A Robin in a Christmas Tree

Author Jan Jones tells about her Christmas Tree.

Here is a photo of this year's Christmas tree. We always use decorations saved from year to year and never quite seem to throw out the old, tatty ones on the grounds that once all the tinsel and sparkle is up, no one will notice the elderly bits and pieces. This doesn't, of course, stop me buying a couple of new decorations each Christmas!

The robins have an especial place in my heart. We always used to have one on the tree when I was growing up - then when I had my first home my mother bought me a robin for my first Christmas tree. Since then, one or two more have been added, and when my mother sadly passed away, her robins found their way to my tree as a permanent reminder.Wishing you all a very happy Christmas!

Jan Jones' latest book is FORTUNATE WAGER - "Scandal and secrets on the Regency Racecourse". Available from Robert Hale Books.

We have an angel that my brother made at nursey 40 years ago that tops the tree every Christmas. Wobbly and uneven but we wouldn't be without it!

What a gorgeous tree! We have robins like that in ours, handed down from my mother-in-law.

(Have just read Fortunate Wager and can highly recommend it:o))

Nice tree, Jan!
I love the robins. Our tree is different this year. Like you we have the same decorations, but this year my daughter decided to use only the red ones and the cream ones, so it it not as bright as usual. The other colours will have to wait in the box till another year, when they are In Favour. There are exceptions to her rule though - ie purple chocolates and gold choc coins...
Happy Christmas!

Lovely picture, lovely tree, Jan! Like you, I treasure all my 'old' decorations and only throw them away if they actually break. I have some tiny glass baubles that used to be my Nan's. I put them on a small ornamental tree - I want them to be seen, but they're just too small for the big 'real' tree.
Have a lovely Christmas!

Alison - the paper star at the top of our tree is the one my son and I made together when he was just two. He's now, er, rather older. A lot rather older.

Karen - lovely about your robins too! There's just something about having them on the tree, isn't there? (And v glad you liked Fortunate Wager!)

Carol - thanks! We tried to go 'tasteful' one year. It looked very nice - but we all hated it! LOL on daughter's chocolates!

Olivia - I do think ancient decorations give family trees their character. You miniature one sounds lovely.

Wooo Jan we've got a robin just like that! I can't bring myself to throw out our old decorations, so we just add more and more....

Your tree looks lovely. I have one of those atlas baubles too.

My tree has various bits and pieces made by the children over the years.

Melinda - fab about the matching robin! We'll both just have to buy trees with more and more branches.

Debs - Thanks. We actually have three atlas baubles for reasons which now escape me. They're so heavy that we have to stagger them around the tree or it falls over!
